Good News from Ireland

Many people in the US have supported the good works by An Taisce, Biofuelwatch and other UK and Irish environmental organizations to keep these plants from being converted to burning wood pellets. If that had happened, it is highly likely that those plants would have imported wood pellets from the SE of the US.

From Biofuelwatch: “Two of the three peat power stations will finally be shut down and not converted to burning wood pellets. This is great news for the climate, for biodiversity and for forests. It is very sad that the long-overdue closure of those dirty power plants is leaving more people in an already economically depressed region unemployed. We agree with An Taisce’s response about the urgent need for a Just Transition response: https://www.antaisce.org/FailedPeatInvestment
